It's been a long wet weekend. Beautiful place for a cook-off and the Exchange Club did a great job. There were 29 teams in all. We ended up 4th overall with a 10th chicken, 4th rib, 8th pork and 6th brisket. Great cookoff to put on your calendar next year. Thanks to our sponsors, Strube Ranch, Yoder Smokers, Butcher's BBQ, Kosmo's Q, Texas Pepper Jelly, and Springer Mountain Farms. We couldn't do this without you. We are headed to Sevierville, TN next weekend, and have hopes of a better finish.

Huntsville, AL Results
Wow, what a great weekend. It was great to be back in Huntsville Alabama at the famous Whistle Stop Festival, benfiting the Earlyworks of Huntsville. The weather turned out to be great, the parking was excellent, (had our own little fenced in area). We had a good cook, we were happy with all our meats we cooked, and we had excellent scores, just not winning scores which is testament to good judging. We finished 6th overall, with a 10th Springer Mountain Farm Chicken, 21st & 11th Compart Duroc Ribs and Pork respectivley. Our best effort of the day was 3rd place with our Strube Ranch Brisket...(and as always Trust your Butcher). Also, a Big Congrats to David with Butcher's BBQ on RGC in Bixby, OK this weekend, and to Donnie and Cindy with Buffalo's BBQ on the GC. We are heading to Brandon, MS next weekend. Until next week.

Rogers, AR
Another great weekend in Rogers, AR. Weather was perfect, and the event was great. We ended up 3rd overall out of 34 teams. Had 6th chicken, 1st Rib, 6th pork and 11th brisket. Only one point out of RGC and 3 out of GC, but the top two teams are Lotta Bull "U" alumni. Congrats to Caveman Cuisine on GC and to Little Pig Town on RGC. We are headed to Delight to see the folks and load up product on our way to Decatur, AL to do a Backyard Class on Tuesday night, before we head over to Huntsville, AL to compete next weekend. Hope all have a great week, and a special thanks to all our sponsors.

RGC Enid, Oklahoma
Wow, what a weekend. It turned off pretty cold on Friday, but Saturday turned into a great day with plenty of sunshine. Turn-in went off without a hitch, and we were happy, for the most part, with what we turned in. Chicken and Ribs were dryer than what we wanted, but it was all we had. Flavor wise we were on point. Anyways, we ended up 17th chicken, 20th Rib, 10th Pork, and 6th Brisket. We were just hoping that we finished in the top ten. Well, we pulled off a Reserve Grand Champion. What a shock. We'll take it any day of the week, but the RGC and the GC were both shocks. The GC only had one top ten call in the categories.
We headed home to enjoy the grandsons coming to the house today. Can't wait. A congrats to David with Butcher's BBQ
and to Darian with Kosmo's Q for there calls as well. We will be heading to Rogers, AR for the upcoming weekend, and then head on over to AL.
A Special Thanks to our Sponsors:
Strube Ranch
Yoder Smokers
Compart Duroc Pork
Butcher's BBQ
Kosmo's Q

It's always great to compete at a contest that has such a worthy cause. Be sure to put this event on your calendar for 2013. The Elks Lodge and event staff do a great job. We are headed to Enid, OK for our next event.

2012 BBQ Contest Update
Wow, what a beginning. We started out in Great Bend, KS at the end of February. The wind was blowing so hard, Mike had to man the door. It took all he had to get it open and shut. Didn't fair too well with the Judges, but what do they know. LOL Headed from there to Cookeville, TN to update our Sponsors on the RV. After 2 breakdowns we finally made it on Wednesday. Spent the day there, and headed out towards Atmore, AL after waiting on the Tornado sirens to quit blowing. On Wednesday night we had another breakdown about 80 miles from Atmore. Pulled into a Rest Area and spent the night. John Swift of Wild Bunch Butt Burners sent a man with the part we needed on Thursday morning, and we finally made it to their home in Atmore Thursday afternoon. Shortly after arriving there, we all headed to Pensacola, FL. Had a fair showing there, then headed back to Atmore to spend the week with the Swift's and several other teams. Great time to socialize and eat great food. We all headed different directions on Thursday afternoon. We headed to Baton Rouge, LA to the Sam's Club event. We received one call, but enjoyed our time with Mike and Chris Peters of Here Piggy Piggy. We headed back to Atmore before heading to Tupelo, MS for the Don't Be Cruel contest on Thursday. Never have been escorted into an event, but the Tupelo Police escorted each team to their parking spot. They stopped traffic and paraded us through Tupelo. Upon arrival all the event folks were wearing Elvis sunglasses. We got some too. Mike really looks cute in his Elvis wear. We received a call there as well, and headed back to Atmore, AL one more time so we could help John and Kathy with an annual charity event for Relay for Life. John and Mike cooked 246 steaks for this event. We headed out Tuesday headed to Hammond, LA. Stopped along the way in Long Beach, MS for a quick haircut for Debbie from her favorite hairdresser, Janet Welch. It was great to see Terry and Janet, and we also got to eat at Little Rays, which is our favorite restaurant there. We've been eating Poor Boy's galore on this trip. Headed out Tuesday afternoon to Hammond and parked behind City Glass which Eric Phares and his lovely wife own and run. We had torrential ran for a couple of days, but was glad when it moved out. Moved over to the cookoff site on Thursday morning, and just enjoyed sitting out and visiting with everyone. We finish this BBQ tour with a 5th place overall. We received 5th Chicken and 3rd Rib. We are ending this outing and headed home, with a quick trip to our daughters home to see her and the grandsons. Flying to Vegas next weekend, then we are going to spend the month of April in Oklahoma for some close cookoffs. Be sure and mark your calendars for next year when Hammond, LA will be celebrating their 10th year holding their event. Thanks to all our sponsors, Strube Ranch, Yoder Smokers, Duroc Compart Pork, Texas Pepper Jelly, Kosmo's Q and Butcher's BBQ.

Lotta Bull "U" Recap
What a great weekend. We had students from Canada, South Dakota, California, Arizona, Texas and of course Oklahoma. The facilities at the WinStar World Casino RV Park were out of this world. Indoor/outdoor Pavilion with outdoor sink and hot/cold water. Refrigerator inside along with Tv's and cameras so the students could watch all the prep work that was being done. We are proud to announce our new partnerships with Butcher's BBQ, Texas Pepper Jelly, Kosmo's Q, and Compart Duroc Pork. The students not only got instruction from us, but David with Butcher's demonstrated his brisket injection, Darian with Kosmo's Q demonstrated his chicken soak, and Craig with Texas Pepper Jelly gave out samples of his Bird Bath, and Rib Candy. These are awesome products. Mike used all of their products along with his own, and of course a few secret ingredients while cooking. Everyone got the opportunity to taste every meat, and got to say the pork from Compart Duroc was awesome.
We are proud to say that we still have our sponsorship with Yoder Smokers out of Yoder, KS and of course Strube Ranch of out Pittsburg, TX. A Special thanks to Tia with Strube Ranch for supplying the brisket, Don Carey of Yoder Smokers for supplying a charcoal grill to cook Friday night's Steak dinner on, and to Scot Kee of Little Pig Town and Phillip Brazier for cooking the steaks. Phillip and Kathy Brazier, KCBS Reps, out of TN came and held a Q&A session about what they do at a contest. This was a special treat as well to all the students. We had a great time, hopefully armed a lot of teams with some great tips to help them pull off a GC this year. Thanks again to all who came, we couldn't have done this without your participation.

2011 Recap
We've had a very blessed year again in 2011. It wasn't our best year, but certainly not our worst. We're gearing up for the 2012 season. Starting to put together next years schedule. We start the year out going to San Diego, CA for the KCBS Team of the Year Awards Banquet. We finished this year 7th overall, 6th Chicken, 24th Rib,6th Pork, and 18th Brisket. We are definitely looking for a new recipe for ribs in 2012, but will keep all our other recipes the same except to tweak a little. Finishing all categories in the top 25 isn't too bad. We've had a lot of great friends called home to be with the good Lord this year, and even though they will be missed, we know that we will see them all again some day. We have high hopes of a great 2012 and hope everyone has a great New Year. Be sure and sign up for our upcoming Lotta Bull "U" to be held in February. Look forward to seeing everyone next year.

The "Jack"
What a great weekend. It rained on Wednesday and Thursday, but moved out early. Turned into a sunny and cool weekend. It was great to see Mike and Chris Peters of the KCBS tour. They do a great job promoting KCBS and all their tour sponsors. They were also competing for the first time at the event too. Special thanks to Don Cary of Yoder Smokers for letting us borrow a brand new Pellet Cooker to cook our white meat chicken on. This is the only event you have to turn in both dark and white meat in the Chicken category and also the only event you have to turn in enough for 7 judges. We ended up with a 2nd place Chicken. It was definitely a first place entry. Not bad for cooking the chicken on 2 different Yoder Smokers. We ended up 19th overall out of 89. Our ribs tanked big time, otherwise we would have given the GC a run for his money. LOL We are headed now to Gastonia, NC and then to Shelby, NC before heading home for our oldest grandsons 9th birthday. It was good to see a lot of our past Lotta Bull "U" alumni. Several got calls, and made us extremely proud. Till next week......

Sam's Club Finale, Bentonville, AR
The top 50 qualifying teams from around the country came to Bentonville, AR for the Inaugural Sam's Club BBQ Championship. Arrived on Thursday evening and got set up. We were again parked with Wild Bunch and had a good time getting to visit with them and with some teams that we don't get to see on a regular basis. Went over to the Doubletree Hotel for a Reception thanks to Uncle Kenny's out of FL who gave us a ride over to the hotel. Appetizers, drinks and a concert by Country Music Star Craig Morgan. Since it was a Friday night and time to get to work, we left pretty quickly. Not able to stay for the concert, but we're sure it was a good one. We were able to get a photo op with Craig Morgan on Saturday afternoon thanks to Mike McCloud with MMA who brought Craig around to introduce him to us. Saturday went off without a hitch due to the great jobs by the KCBS reps and volunteers. A special thanks to Dawn and Kelly in the KCBS office. These two girls work their butts off for not a lot of glory or money. When all was done we had a 5th place chicken and 10th place brisket. We ended up 8th overall. Congrats to Tippy Canoe for winning GC. We also got a 3rd place Tri-Tip award. This was an extra category that was thrown in, and was entered by all 50 contestants. We are headed now to "The Jack" next weekend in Lynchburg, TN. Be sure and stop by if you are in the area. This is a great event with lots of stuff to do for the whole family. See you in Lynchburg.

American Royal
This was our 12th year to go the American Royal. Spent the Thursday before the event doing some live TV with Channel 5. This was a lot of fun and we have been asked to come back and do it again next year. We pulled into the parking lot at 4 AM and got some brisket and ribs ready to take inside for the morning anchors. They loved the food, and we are looking forward to making this an annual event. Went straight to Kemper Arena and got parked then it was non-stop radio and TV interviews through Friday. We had the opportunity to do a spot with Jeffrey Saad with the Cooking Channel on an upcoming episode of United Tastes of America. We'll post when we find out when this episode will air. No calls either day, but with our past history at the Royal there are no complaints. We were happy with the product we turned in, and that is all you can do. Be sure to come out to next years event and look us up.

Murphysboro, IL
Mike and Amy Mills do a great job putting one this event at the 17th Street Bar and Grill. We pulled in Thursday morning and got set up. We checked out a couple of local restaurants while we were there, and it was great food everywhere we went. The gift basket that Mike's sponsors put together was awesome. It took both of us to get it back to the RV. At the awards ceremony we were presented with a handblown Apple for 1st place Chicken. We ended up 3rd overall. This is one event you want to put on your calendar for next year. This is definitely a cooks cook-off. Lots of room to park and the whole town is behind this event. We're glad we made the trip and are headed to KC for the American Royal.

Reserve Grand Champion - Cookeville, TN
What a great event. This event started on a sad note with the passing of Tony Stone, past President of KCBS and the organizer for Cookeville. His daughters did a great job putting on this event, and honoring their Dad. We received 2nd Chicken, 3rd Pork and 4th Brisket and ended up Reserve GC right behind Wayne Abrams of Bubba's Tennessee Smokers. Congrats to Wayne, and be sure and put this event on your calendar for next year.

Catching UP
Well, we participated in the Extreme Homemaker BBQ Throwdown in Ottawa, KS. It was a lot of work, but a lot of fun and for a good cause. Along with 7 other top KCBS competitors we served 3300 plates of BBQ and helped raise $40,000 for the family that they are building the house for. We finished up there and headed over to Laurie, MO for a competition there on Friday/Saturday. We ended up 4th overall, and headed back to OK for a couple of days before heading towards McMinnville, TN. We were one of 2 teams to get 4 calls, but again ended up 4th overall. It was a great weekend, and we are hanging out in TN for a few days before we go over to Fulton, MS for this upcoming weekend.

Extreme Makeover BBQ Throwdown
Extreme Makeover: Home Edition and contacted the Kansas City Barbeque Society to join forces with and support the popular TV show Extreme Makeover: Home Edition as it pulls into East Central Kansas to build a new home for a worthy family.
As part of the home building/renovation process, Extreme Makeover typically hosts a Community Fund Raising Event, which helps the charitable family with miscellaneous expenses. However, this version will be quite unique. That's b...ecause KCBS will be adding an authentic Kansas City flavor to the event by preparing a plate of competition BBQ for the expected crowd of 2,000.
But that's not all. In fact, KCBS has agreed to support Extreme Makeover: Home Edition Kansas build with an Extreme Makeover BBQ Throwdown! Eight of the Top 10 KCBS teams in America will make the journey into KC for a special competition treat that will be judged by eight members of the EMHE cast and crew. The eight teams are Lotta Bull BBQ, Butcher's BBQ,Buffalo's BBQ (all 3 of these are OK teams) Munchin' Hogs at the Hilton, 4 Legs Up BBQ, Chix, Swine and Bovine, Swine Assasins, and Pellet Envy. The Throwdown will occur on stage in front of the crowd right after they have been sworn in as Honorary KCBS Certified Judges.
The fundraiser will take place on Aug. 4, a couple days before the home "reveal." The location has not been identified yet, but the event will feature live music, a raffle and a silent auction, with all proceeds will benefit the local family and build fund. The cost of the tickets is $10 and $5 for kids under 12.

Sam's Club Contest
Well we went into the awards ceremony not expecting much. Anything that could go wrong did, but we were fine with it. With all the missteps and mishaps, we were actually surprised that what we turned in wasn't too bad, but we knew it wasn't one of those game-on days. We ended up with a 12th Chicken, 12th Rib, 14th Pork and woo-hoo a 2nd Brisket. Troy Black called out the top 6 that would move on to the Sam's Club Regional at Jackson, TN in October. 6th place was Warden's Q (great job guys on a perfect score in Brisket), 5th Brewmaster's Bar-B-Que, 4th Lotta Bull, 3rd Yazoo's Delta Q, 2nd Smokers Wild (great job Don and Sharon) and 1st K&K Kookers (congrats Richard on a job well done). Can't believe with one call that we made the cut. Go Figure. Yazoo's Delta Q had already qualified at an earlier event, so the 7th plkace finish got moved up which was Swiggin' Pig (congrats Barry & Mike). We're headed home and on to Iola, KS next week. Until then.

Third Time's a Charm X's 2
This was our third year in Gaffney, SC and we were named the Grand Champion for two weeks in a row. Wow, what a great trip to SC. We were the only team to get 4 calls with a 3rd Chicken, 2nd Rib, 3rd Pork and 9th Brisket. If we weren't already in the Jack Daniel's Cookoff for winning the American Royal Open, we would have been an automatic with this being our 7th win for the 2011 BBQ Season. We have been very blessed, and give all the honor and glory to our Savior, Jesus Christ. We want to give our congrats to Scott and Suzy of South Pork out of Madison, AL for Reserve GC. Dennis at Gaffney does a great job at this event. There were 45 teams this year and we were back up on the courthouse square. The Peach Festival was going on as well, and we were also given a basket of fresh peaches to take home with us. There are no better peaches than what is grown in SC. Headed to the Sam's Club event in Memphis, TN next weekend. If you are in the Memphis area, stop by and visit.

Third Time's a Charm
We competed in Greenwood, SC this weekend for the 3rd year. This is one event that is totally supported by the town and the surrounding areas. When all was done, we were named Grand Champion. We placed in all four categories with a 3rd Chicken, 9th Rib, 4th Pork and 1st place Brisket. We were also announced the Kingsford Points Chase Winner. What a weekend. It was hot, but we did get some rain on Friday night, which really cooled the place off, and the rain came again after the awards ceremony on Saturday. The rain didn't dampen the event. The Blues music went on and the crowd didn't thin out too much either. They announced that this event last year had a $1.1 million impact on Greenwood's economy. Wow. Angie and Charlie do a great job putting on this event, and you should put it down as one to come to next year. We are heading to Gaffney for next weekend. Until next week.

Reserve Grand Champion at Ada, OK
It was one hot weekend in Ada at the Ada Municipal Airport and 3 grandsons along for the ride. We took the boys to see the practice Air Show on Friday evening and had snowcones. It was so hot, we didn't spend a lot of time outside of the RV all weekend. When all was said and done, we had won Reserve GC. We lot grand by .0002 points. OUCH! A congrats goes to Wildcatters BBQ for the Grand. It was good to get out of there and back on the road. We headed home with the boys, and took them to TX on Sunday afternoon and enjoyed a family reunion with Debbie's side of the family. We headed over to Girard, KS for the 4th of July weekend. It was a great site with plenty of electricity and shade trees. We ended up 5th overall. We had calls in 3 of the 4 categories. Our brisket wasn't to their liking, but we were happy with what we turned in. We are now headed to Greenwood, SC. If you are in the area, be sure and stop by for a quick chat. We'll be heading to Gaffney, SC for next weekend, and then start making our way back home. We hope to have a great story to tell when the weekend is done.

Grand Championship at Chandler, OK
It's been a while since updating the website, but we finally are taking a break from being on the road. We just finished up cooking in Chandler, OK and walked away with the Grand Championship. We placed in all 4 categories, 2nd chicken, 3rd rib, 6th pork and 3rd brisket. Can't beat Strube Ranch briskets and cooking on a Yoder Smoker. We were pleasantly surprised by Mike's Uncle Bob and his wife stopping by to see us this past weekend. We couldn't even remember when we last saw them, but it was great to visit with them. We've been running the road for a while. We have accumulated several trophies and ribbons along with a couple of Reserve Grand Championships. We are planning to head to Ada, OK next Friday and come home on Saturday night. It's really nice being close to home for a change.
We catered the Masters again this year, and had a great time and met a great group of guys thanks to DeWalt Tools. We also stopped in Batesville, AR and had a lot of dental work done by a fellow competitor, Chris Beller, Rib Ticklers. He has to be the greatest dentist ever. We were both in the chair over a couple of days and along with his staff they went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable and made us happy to actually get our teeth worked on. That is not an easy feat by any imagination. If you are ever in the Batesville, AR area we would highly recommend going to Dr. Chris. As one of his patients said "Dr. Chris Rocks."
We have been very blessed to not get caught in any of the terrible weather that has been going on all year. The storms kept going around wherever we happened to be. All is good at home except for being hot, but it is really great to take a break. We won't be headed out again until the week of July 4th where we will head over to SC for a couple of weeks and then make a stop at Memphis, TN before coming back to the house. Going to stay at home a couple of more weeks so we can do a cook-off and birthday with our grandsons. Anyways, hope to have good news to share soon. Be sure and stop by if you happen to be in the area of any of the events we are competing in.

We had a 8th Chicken, 6th Rib, 1st Pork and a 5th Brisket. We lost to a good friend Mike Richter of Chix, Swine & Bovine, by a score of 681.7142 to 681.7138, close but no cigar!! On to Slidell this weekend!!

Heading out to Start the New Year
Well, we had planned on already having a couple of competitions under our belts, but due to illness and snow and ice, we are getting a late start. We headed out this afternoon heading to Mississippi for an IBCA cook-off. Figured we would do a practice run before heading to Pensacola, FL next week for our 1st KCBS competition for 2011. We'll head on over to Mobile, AL the following weekend, and then make a trip back home. There's a weekend with no competitions going on, so we figured we would head home and enjoy the grandsons before we head out for what our daugther says is forever. We'll pretty much be on the road for the next 8 months. We'll make a few drive-bys at the house, but for the most part we'll be hitting the KCBS BBQ trail until the first weekend in December. We're both ready to get the year underway, and have high hopes of a good season. We're headed to some friends, John and Kathy Swift, Wild Bunch Butt Burners for the next couple of weeks. Haven't seen them since December, so we're looking forward to catching up. Next week we'll be attending our friends John and Marsha, Late Night Whiskey Smokers, wedding on Thursday night before the competition starts. We'll post each week how we have done at the competitions. If you're out at one of the contests we are competing in, please be sure and drop by. Love to see old and new friends.

2011 Here we Come
Well, we're ready to get the new year started. We head to Kansas City on the 14th for the 25th Annual KCBS Awards Banquet. We ended up as 3rd Runner-up in the Team of the Year race. We finished in the top 10 in both Chicken and Pork, and top 20 in brisket. Ribs was just out of the top 25. Big Congrats to Quau, Mike and Beth Wozniak, on winning Team of the Year. They worked hard all year and it is well deserved.
We have to thank our sponsors once again, because without them we could not do what we love to do. Thanks to Tia at Strube Ranch, Greg at Antoine Hardwoods, Nick with Eden Farms, and Don and Joe at Yoder Smokers. The new Yoder Smoker is at the Yoder shop getting some minor adjustments and touch up to get the new year started. We'll be picking it up before we leave for Lakeland, FL at the end of the month. Check out our schedule. We've only gotten to the first of April for the year, but hope to get more added after the Banquet. Be sure and stop by and visit if you happen to be at one of the events we are cooking at. Be sure and check out the new Sponsor T-shirts under the Products link.

Sucarnochee BBQ and Blues Cookoff
Lotta Bull wasn't quite able to pull out another win this past weekend in Livingston, AL, but did win Reserve Grand Champion right behind Barry Johnson with Swiggin' Pig out of TN. The organizers did a great job, and the location was perfect. They had all 17 teams parked at the Soccer Fields with plenty of electricity and water. As always Randy and Carol Bigler, KCBS Reps, did a great job running the contest. It was good to see Scott Bradley and his Dad, who drove 3 hours just to come visit with us on Saturday afternoon. As soon as awards were over, we hit the road headed towards home. Finally arrived in Oklahoma late Sunday afternoon. It feels great to be home again. If you are looking for a great contest to attend this is one to put on your calendar for next year.

Talladega Super Speedway
Moments before NASCAR's biggest names walked across the Sprint Stage at Talladega Super Speedway, two of the Kansas City BBQ Society's best barbeque teams were front and center.
Lotta Bull BBQ's Mike and Debbie Davis were announced as the Grand Champions at DegaQue Alabama BBQ Championship. Bill Deitz and Sean Hopkins of Sam's Club presented Lotta Bull with a trophy and a check for $10,000 on the Sprint Stage at the start-finish line in the heart of Talladega Super Speedway.
It was amazing to be able to present Mike and Debbie with this check in front of some of NASCAR's biggest fans at one of the most legendary tracks,Dietz said. These are the superstars of barbeque.
Mike Richter of Chix, Swine and Bovine BBQ was also on hand to accept his trophy after being named the Reserve Grand Champion.
These teams work hard during each and every competition, said Mike McCloud, president and CEO of MMA Creative, the official agency of KCBS. They deserve the prestige and recognition of being on this national stage; it was great to be able to be a part of this experience.
The Second Annual $50,000 DEGAQUE Alabama BBQ Championship was presented by Sam's Club and sponsored by Tyson.

The Jack
A great weekend in Lynchburg, TN with 60 US teams and 15 international teams competing for "The Jack" GC. Lotta Bull wasn't able to win the GC, but did receive 1st place Brisket with a Perfect 180. It was great sharing the spotlight with 2nd place Brisket winner Little Pig Town from Owasso, OK, Scot, Rocky and Bailey Kee our next door neighbors for the weekend. Since winning the American Royal we are automatics into the Jack for next year, so we'll be back to compete again in 2011. We're off to the races in Talledega, AL to compete for King of the Pit and a share of $50,000.

American Royal Open Grand Champion
WOW!!!! Hard to believe that we did it again. For the 3rd time in the past 11 years we were named GC of the Open at the American Royal. We also won GC at the Invitational in 2006, and Reserved it as well in 2005. With 490 teams competing in the open, we were totally shocked to get called for the GC. We had a 26th chicken, 5th rib, 73rd pork and 2nd brisket (how about those Strube Ranch Briskets?????????). With the help of a new Yoder Smoker, burning Antoine Hardwoods Hickory Wood, and Eden Farm pork butts, how could we possibly go wrong? Thanks to all who have sent congrats our way. We've been bombarded with phone calls and e-mails. Hopefully we'll get caught up on them in the next couple of days. It was great seeing old friends, and making new ones. There isn't a better cook-off to do this at than the American Royal. We're headed home for a couple of days, then on to Metropolis, IL (home of Superman). If you're out that way be sure and look us up.

Decatur Grand Champion
A great weekend in Decatur, AL. Little rain on Thursday night, then it turned into a beautiful weekend. There were 78 pro teams and 29 backyard teams competing for the "Wood". The Decatur Jaycees take a log and cut a trophy cup out of the top, then place a plaque in the bark on the bottom half. Pretty cool trophy, but heavy as all get out. We had 15th chicken, 10th rib, 14 pork and 3rd brisket (thanks Tia, with Strube Ranch, for a great product). Won the Grand Champion by 6 points. Not only did we win the GC, but also won the Kingsford Challenge. We were shocked to be called GC, but really excited to hear our name last. Want to congratulate Dale and Brenda of Delta Smoke on the Reserve Grand Champion, and also a perfect score 180 in the brisket category. As always, thanks to our sponsors, Strube Ranch, Yoder Smokers, Antoine Hardwood, and Eden Farms.

Cookeville Reserve Grand Champion
Another Reserve Grand Championship at Cookeville, TN. Great day for the Lotta Bull BBQ team. We had calls in all 4 categories, 10th chicken, 10th rib, 2nd pork and 1st brisket. We only missed GC by 1 point, but we are happy with the New Yoder Smoker. Everything was good today, and we even think the Yoder Smoker puts the Geer Pit to shame. We couldn't do it without our sponsors. Thanks to Yoder for the great Smoker, Strube Ranch out of Pittsburg, TX for the best Wagyu beef in the world, Eden Farms for the outstanding Berkshire pork, and Antoine Hardwood for the best burning Hickory wood on God's green earth. Headed to Decatur, AL next weekend, and hope to do as well or better next weekend.

The end of an era?
The McPherson Cookoff proved to be a good time as we had remembered, got to see alot of friends we had not seen for some time. We cooked this contest on the new Yoder Smoker and it did an amazing job. It was rock steady on temp all night and did everything I asked it to do. We finished 4th overall with a 1st Chicken, 3rd Pork, 6th Brisket but our ribs fell out to 22nd (ever have ribs that would not tender up?). Looks like the new Yoder Smoker will be in tow behind the Bull Wagon. The old Geer pit? Not sure of its fate just yet, barn? Museum? Who knows. Kind of like putting a stud out to pasture, lol. Could this be the end of a era for it?

Yoder Smoker
We're spending the week with one of our sponsors, Yoder Smokers, out of Yoder, KS. We have briskets cooking right now, and going to cook some ribs up for the employees tomorrow. We're going to head on over to McPherson, KS on Friday to compete in the When Pigs Fly competition. It's been several years since we have cooked this particular contest, and we're excited and looking forward to a great weekend. If you're out this way, stop by the airport and see us in McPherson this weekend.
